Spotlight: Lima Accord

Spotlight on the Lima Accord

The Lima Accord is a multilateral agreement amongst Latin American and Caribbean organizations that are responsible for the voluntary accreditation of undergraduate engineering programs within their respective jurisdictions. Signatories are committed to the development and recognition of good practices in the delivery of engineering programs.

The Lima Accord is open to all accrediting agencies and associated organizations in Latin America and Caribbean territories and countries.

The purpose of the original meeting was to bring together these accrediting agencies in order to reach a mutual recognition agreement between them and define a “Roadmap for Mutual Recognition Agreements in the region”.

Goals of the accord are to:

  • recognize the substantial equivalence of the quality of the engineering programs accredited by the signatory members of the Agreement, and
  • facilitate the mobility of professionals and the mutual recognition of engineering degrees.

Annual meetings are held to review the accord and its administration.
