New Congressional Research Report on Accreditation

A new document, “An Overview of Accreditation of Higher Education in the United States,” was released in October, 2020 by the Congressional Research Service, and reviews the current state of accreditation in the United States.  The article provides a broad look at best practices in the accreditation process and gives insight into the various types of accreditation (regional, national, and programmatic) available in the United States.

Topics include evaluations and review procedures, funding, the evolution of the federal role in accreditation, how the U.S. Department of Education plays a role, and standards required for the accreditation process.
