The Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree program offered by Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) in the College of Engineering and Technology has earned international recognition under the Washington Accord. The university announced the achievement via a news release which indicated that the recognition is a “significant achievement that affirms JKUAT’s curriculum meets the rigorous global standards set by the Washington Accord.”
Responding to the milestone achievement, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Victoria Ngumi, said it reaffirms the university commitment to produce world-class engineers equipped with the skills required to drive innovation and solve complex engineering challenges worldwide. “This is a great honor to us and a privilege to know that the resources we have put in the training of engineering students has led to international recognition,” said Prof. Ngumi in a statement.
The program was recognized by the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) which is the recognized accrediting body for engineering and computing programs in Kenya. EBK, Board Chairman, Eng. Erastus K. Mwongera recognized the effort and accomplishments of JKUAT throughout the process of accreditation, saying “the commitment demonstrated by the university is commendable.”
The achievement of program accreditation around the world is the result not only of an outstanding educational program, but also the efforts of university staff, accrediting body professionals and others who work as a team to evaluate and assess each program.
