Spotlight: How Accreditation Works

How do Programs Achieve and Maintain Accreditation?

Engineering and computing programs are accredited -- and re-accredited -- through a detailed evaluation process managed by an accrediting body working closely with the academic unit and university seeking accreditation. The process varies a bit country by country but usually entails a deep review of recruiting practices, admissions procedures, course content, degree completion requirements, and other factors to ensure the program meets recognized and established standards for the specific degree in question. Accrediting a program is a time consuming process for all involved, which helps determine if any changes are recommended to establish or maintain standards.

Many accrediting bodies align the standards for programs they accredit to global accords and agreements which serve to help ensure that accredited degrees are of a consistent quality across country borders.
